Restaurant recommendation requests
« on: September 20, 2011, 09:14:27 PM »
Seems like this might be a helpful general category thread.

So, we were planing on maybe hitting Cakes and Ale with the inlaws and our well-behaved five year old early tomorrow night around 6:30 PM, but they have nothing available until 9PM. Back to the drawing board.

Any ideas for a semi-early dinner out in Decatur that is at least a little nice but can handle the presence of a five year old and some folks who don't want starch? Meaning, pizza or pasta is out but some starch on the side is not a biggie. We are looking for something a little more upscale than Community Q.

Thanks.

If you are not opposed to sitting at the community table at C&A, I wouldn't rule it out.  I went there with a friend on a Saturday evening recently and we had no trouble getting seats there at 7-ish.  Once you are there, Leon's and No. 246 are around the corner.  When I ate at No. 246 on a Friday evening, they had plenty of open tables from 6-6:30.

We left disappointed with 246 after all the hype.
The best dish was the agnolotti. The other 3 mains were average at best, or lower.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed.  I have had a number of good meals there.

Would also second Leon's as a suggestion.  Very kid friendly, and solid food all around.
There are things you do because they feel right & they make no sense & they make no money & it may be the real reason we are here: to love each other & to eat each other's cooking & say it was good.

I Third Leon's -- it can be loud but there's also plenty of outdoor seating and Bocce!

Not Decatur but One Eared Stag could be nice -- if the weather is nice, sit on the back patio..Same with Harper Station.

I will say on Cakes&Ale that you could stick your head in and see if there is room,  we were there on a "fully booked" night and there were plenty of free tables.

Leon's it is! Menu sounds delicious. Thanks.

I see that they don't take reservations, hope that won't be a problem.

You should be fine at 6:30 on a non-weekend. We walk in all the time with my son and almost never encounter a wait.

I know I'm way too late for tonight, but may for next time, you might consider Wahoo.
