Frozen Mussels
« on: January 27, 2012, 01:41:19 PM »
I've always cooked fresh mussels but have never tried the frozen ones that are available at Kroger and other stores.  I would go to Harry's and buy some fresh but with the combination of lousy Roswell Friday traffic and my current short-tempered attitude that's probably not a good idea.  Has anybody had any luck with the frozen mussels?

Thanks,
Robert

I've had frozen mussels and frozen clams before on multiple occasions, and they were as one would expect--rubbery and less flavorful.  If you're willing to put up with that, go for it.  But in general, do yourself a favor and brave the traffic to buy fresh mussels.  Fresh mussels are one of the best values in seafood I can think of.  I've never met a mussel dish I didn't like.

Thanks, Lorenzo, that's kind of what I thought they'd be like.  I punted on them last night.  I'll probably give them a try at some point just to see how they turn out.
