What 'r ya drinkin tonight?
« on: December 19, 2009, 04:54:06 PM »

Somehow pushed to the back of the fridge, found a lone and lonely Dogfish Head Punkin Ale.  Maybe not for the purist, but a really nice deep and dark pumpkin/caramel flavor that goes well with food (in this case a quick steak burrito).

2002 Karl Lawrence Cab.

REALLY tight when I first popped, opened up after about 45 minutes.  Still quite young.

Very nice offering from Hudson Rouse. It is a 2005 Cab, from Popova Kula winery in Macedonia.

What we had to pair today at BGE were those wines from Macedonia.  A couple were terrific, this is one.

GG>- <<<< added later >>>>   I didn't know this wine was this individual..   Now that might not make it great, but it from a fairly unique, heritage grape variety.  I'm all for that.

I haven't opened this bottle but I did taste it (a good taste) during our show today.

Other than that wine (maybe later), I'm drinking a Loose Cannon, they are still tops for me...

Finding offense where none is intended is a form of selfishness.

When facts change, I change my mind.  What do you do?

2006 Etude Napa Valley Fortitude - nice blend of Charbono, carignane, valdiguie, petite sirah.  Tastes sort of Italian, not at all like a Cali fruit bomb.

Drinking a Stone Sublimely Self Righteous right now.  Probably going to open a Duchesse De Bourgogne in a few minutes.  Have some Stella simmering in my chili.  That's about all that's good for.

Sounds quite tasty.  Where'd you get it?

I got that Stone at the Green's on BuHi, but I've seen them at the other Green's and I think I've seen it at Candler Park Market.  Deep roasted malts keep the strong resiny hops in good balance.  Stone is probably my favorite brewer of American style ales.  This isn't my favorite Stone (that would be the Double Bastard), but it's very nice.

Lozen Boer:

Not something I would ordinarily buy, but a gift from somebody (who spends most of his time hanging out in Decatur Pubs) I did a lot of work for last year.  At 750 ml and 10% alcohol, I shouldn't need too much else.

Anybody ever run across it?

I don't think I've had that one, but I recently ran across that brewery's Flemish sour, and it was easily one of the best I've had of the style.  Based on that I would imagine that their other varieties are very good.

Ok...one lozen boer down.  Really nice, very deep rich caramel flavor, relatively sweet, great with a spread of salty and spicy apps.  Sorry, I cannot pick out "notes"... But it is certainly substantial and rich and VERY tasty... Did I mention 750 ml and 10% abv???  :-)

La Fin Du Monde, maybe followed up by a Maudite.  As my Canadian sister-in-law puts it: "The is the only good thing to ever come out of Quebec."

Pino Gris/Grigio tasting:

Villa Marija (Slovenia)
Acrobat (Oregon)
Snowline (Oregon)

Acrobat is the richest, fullest of the bunch.  Villa Marija very crisp and nice, though.

Currently at the bar at Leon's enjoying a Bell's Double Cream Stout. Quite tasty.

Followed by a Mikkeller Santa's Little Helper.  What a crazy, delicious beer.  At nearly 11% ABV it about knocked me on my butt.  Home to bed hopefully not to regret...
