Wife and I went on Saturday night despite all of our friends bailing on us. We originally had a 6pm reservation (no were not 70 years old) so since the sitter arrived at the time needed to make such a ridiculously early reservation we decided to head down there anyway. We anticipated no difficulty getting a table for 2 at 6pm, we were only partially right. They told us we could get a seat outside but not inside unless there was a no-show. Since it was not ideal outside but not miserable we decided to try our luck waiting. I like bar seating but the wife wasn't for it so after about 20 minutes of waiting we realized that no-shows to not occur at Barcelona. We quickly adjusted and grabbed two seats by the wood burning fire place out back. And with all of that nonsense out of the way, here's the evening:
Fun space, very crowded but not so loud you can't hear yourself think. The fireplace is an awesome place to relax The food comes out blazing fast - here's the rundown:
Olives - as expected, very good
Mushroom and goat cheese - whooaaaaaa nelly, awesome. Warm slightly melted goat cheese with some wonderful mushrooms. Could have eaten this all day.
Georgia Greens - collards cooked with onions and Coca-Cola - these were awesome, very different from the standard southern ham twinged greens. Perfectly cooked, just slightly sweet. Yum.
Iberico ham - this was really excellent but very pricey $9.50 for a small plate. Worth it? Depends on how badly you want to taste it.
Chorizo & Figs - This dish was probably our favorite of the night. The chorizo worked really well to offset the sweetness of the figs. Could be a little overpowering on the fig flavor to some but it was awesome to us.
Beef cheeks - This was really great, the server did a great job convincing my wife this wouldn't suck. It did not.
I think this place is worth the hype. A lot of fun, great people watching, good drinks, nice wine list with a knowledgeable staff that was doing a pretty good job despite being absolutely slammed. We left well before 8pm and it was packed. They have a Sunday pig roast that sounds like a lot of fun. Definitely worth checking out as there were many items I did not have stomach space for that I would love to try.
