Mara Davis Does Good ATL Resto Show
« on: October 29, 2013, 04:05:07 PM »
I need to catch up on the archives (like I'm going to listen live going head to head with college football), but long-time Atlanta radio vet Mara Davis does a good show covering Atlanta restaurants. http://atlantaeats.com/radio/atlanta-eats-radio/

Doing an entire show on Atlanta barbecue, telling everyone how much she loves it, then asking who Dave Poe was may not have been a high point, but it's a good listen.

What say you Melomom, Turkey Lurkey, and TERMINATOR?

Oh well, I listened for the first few weeks, but there was literally almost no talk about restaurants at all.

She has lots of chefs in who tell their life story, engage in giggling at each other’s bad jokes and tout their restaurant a bit. But the actual dearth of talking Atlanta restaurants had my interest waning. Then today, I listen for the first time in a long time and the hot topic is, “What Grammy nominee would you most like to have dinner with,” while Mara does Katy Perry karaoke. SMH. Liked the concept though of a radio show about Atlanta restaurants. Somewhere along the line, it never actually happened.

GG>-   Her show bores me to death.  I like "Get Delicious" much better, but big Jim doesn't do a regular show.

uOTP, have you seen Steak Shapiro's show ?     what do you think of it ?

GG>-  what other folks have said...   ;)

Finding offense where none is intended is a form of selfishness.

When facts change, I change my mind.  What do you do?

It's a poor craftsman that blames his tools.

Mara’s show is part of Steak’s company. Yes, he does do a good job on TV, but I’m more into comparing news and notes, honest ratings of restos, etc. The Food Network profile/informercials don't do it for me as such. He did an Atlanta Eats radio show years ago in which they talked about restaurants. That begat the TV show and bringing back the radio show.

But Mara’s version of the show is nothing like that. And yes, as you said, I agree, “Her show bores me to death.”  Steak did it right. Tom Houck also showed you can do a show and talk about Atlanta restaurants when there were much fewer ones to actually discuss.

I guess I assumed since that was her boss Steak’s format, she was heading in that direction. She is a talented, long-time radio vet, but appears she is way out of her league with that radio show. Too bad.

Oh, the most important part--I really, really wanted to like the show. I really did.

Really.
