Dragon Boats
« on: June 30, 2012, 01:39:43 PM »
We got our Dragon boat Thursday and this morning was the first time it got paddled. A group called Dragon Boat Beaufort has been raising money for about 6 months and got a large donation from a couple to finally get us over the top. The boat was built in Europe and finished in Florida. It was hot on the river but we looked pretty sharp and paddled as a team. The boat has 20 paddlers, a drummer and a person steering the boat in the rear. We raced up in Charleston on the Ashley River in May using their boats and some of their best paddlers have been helping us out with technique and style. Many of our crew are cancer survivors so it is all for a good cause. We hope to get another couple of boats but for now we are in the water finally.

I forgot to mention this but Atlanta has dragon boats and there is a regatta on September 8th at the Olympic rowing venue on Lake Lanier. We are bringing our team up for the races and will be there all day Saturday and will race probably 3 times, maybe 4 depending on how we do.
