GABF Winners

Sweetwater won two medals, Max Lager's one.  That was it for Georgia.

Cigar City, one.  Bosco's one.

It was definitely a West of the Mississippi year.

I have a hard time believing that Max Lager's has a medal worthy imperial stout.

I too would have to taste test it against one of the ones I hold in high regard.

I think I've mentioned before that I find Max Lager's beers underrated or just overlooked.  With downtown still not having achieved the hoped-for renaissance as a place for Atlantans to go, I think a lot of folks tend to dismiss Max Lager's brewpub as a haven for people in town on business.  I go there sometimes and think they do a very good job.  I especially respect that they seem to focus mainly to well-established styles rather than trendy experimental recipes.

J.R. at Max Lager's is an excellent brewer.   The spot definitely caters to the business crowd and it serves them well.  They're opening a second location next year -- more of a wood-fired steakhouse concept with game.

Huh.  I went years ago before I was really into beer and wasn't really blown away.  At some point I came under the impression that it was a big chain like Rock Bottom, but I just figured out I was wrong.  I'll have to check them out again.
