Exploring Food My Way

My name is Tom Noe and I am a food blogger writing mostly about my culinary experiences in the northeast Ohio area. Sometimes I travel to other parts of the country to visit friends and family and when I do, I usually try to include a few blog entries about some of the local cuisine, too. While I do eat at national chain restaurants from time to time, you generally won't find reviews here of the food at these types of establishments because everyone has access to them, and as such, aren't particularly interesting places about which to write.

You can find your way across this country using burger joints the way a navigator uses stars.

First post in a long time from BG.  I kind of thought the new job with "Eater Atlanta" would signal the end of her blog, but from the post almost sounds like she's going to be able to give it a little more attention, though obviously lives evolve and things change.  Still, this was one of my favorite stops for many years and I'll be interested to see how it goes.

Stumbled on this yesterday. It is a group of nine folks who cooked and blogged their way through all the recipes in Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking by Marcella Hazan. I found it inspiring and will now try some of the recipes that I have been passing by, like the pork braised with vinegar and bay. Especially interesting are their favorite recipes and Marcella's comments on pretty much every post.

This is a very cool idea.  I'd be up for such a challenge.

There are more than one of us on this board that have cooked through (or almost through) a cookbook.  But I do think they did it on their own and not part of a group.  I do remember Rowdy cooking though one of Tony Bourdaine's books.

Actually, it looks like the Marcella folks coordinated and assigned recipes and dates to each of the participants ahead of time. They had to make their assigned dish and then post about it (with a picture) on their assigned day. Since they were not located in the same cities, they only got to taste their own dishes but they could "taste" vicariously the rest of the time. And one lucky participant was invited to Marcella's house for dinner. How cool is that?

Way cool.

Should we start our own Cookbook Challenge?

I might be up for something like that, depending on the book.

Another fun blog out of Seattle. Sounds like she does some molecular stuff but mainly her posts are highly entertaining (work is a bit slow lately!). Beware that it is truly "salty" :

This is a new, local cooking blog, done by a friend of mine. Beautiful photography and personable copy to go with each recipe.

Thaks for posting Picklefactory. I  like the cute green bean bundles and am ambitiously thinking of making them for Thanksgiving!

As to cooking through a cookbook, I am on pace to finish the Cook's Illustrated cookbook...by the time I die.  But I will do it, oh, yes, I will.  I hope to pick up the pace once I hit retirement.   :D
