Terrapin's New IPA
« on: December 02, 2009, 10:42:09 AM »
Terrapin has started bottling their new IPA "Hopsecutioner" but I have yet to find it.  :-\  From what I've heard, it is only available in the 12 pack sampler until later in the year, if not early next year.  Has anyone had it?  Anyone found the 2009 sampler packs around Roswell/Alpharetta?

I had it on tap *somewhere*. I want to say at The Grange in Decatur, but it could have been Manuel's. Not bad, as I recall.

I am pretty sure I saw it at Green's on Ponce - not too close to your area, tho.

They had just run the tap dry at Abattoir last Saturday - hope they'll get more.

I found it in 6 packs which was a real nice surprise considering it was only being released in 6 packs around mid-December according to an email blast from Terrapin.  I would say that 12/16 is certainly "mid".

Having lunch at the John's Creek Super H, I wandered around grabbing some stuff for dinner and there it sat on the shelf waaay at the top and waaay in the back.  It appeared that I got the last 6 pack.  Can't wait until quittin' time.

A friend brought over a 6 Sunday and left a few for me.  8-)  I found it to be lacking in malt backbone/structure.  I also prefer my American IPAs to be more citrusy and piney.

I found it quite malty actually.  I think it has so much malt it balances out the hops which might be why you're not getting as much pine/citrus.  I did find it more floral than piney, myself.

It's on tap, I believe, at Leon's Full Service. I had some last night as did the couple beside me. I enjoyed the beer. It's a pretty mild IPA, quite drinkable.

It's on tap at The Porter now, though I'm completely over that American IPA grapefruit/piney hop flavor so I'm not planning on trying it.  Except for Stone.  I don't know how they make piney hops so delicious.  I could drink Double Bastard all night (and have).

After a revisit I'll retract my lacking in malt comment.  But it is still missing something for me.

I found it on tap at The Fred and proceeded to have several.

Finally sampled the Hopsecutioner I picked up as a six-pack at Total Wine in Kennesaw.  It was a consolation prize since I was only able to get three bottles of Bell's Two Hearted Ale.  The experience was a consolation prize as well.  It certainly doesn't deserve its name since it isn't hoppy enough to be anything special, although it was easy to drink, so anyone who has never had IPA should find it agreeable.  Personally I like Terrapin Rye Pale Ale more, but I'll hold out for more THA through the season.
