Thanks to everyone again for the suggestions.  I was staying 10 minutes from Watkinsville, so I ended up at Chops and Hops.  Had a great vegetarian plate and a few beers.    The parmesan risotto incuded was excellent.

I also attempted to eat at the Sultan restaurant by the mall for a lunch, but it appeared to be closed.  Also was taken out to eat to a place called Mexicali Grille that was completely boring and average in every way.

Gotta travel to Augusta this week so maybe I'll make another thread ..

Sisters. It's a little Creole spot on Whitehall Road, in the old Jot 'Em Down location, an old general store not far from the east-side shopping area. It's run by three sisters from Louisiana.

And it's awesome. We had roast beef and fried oyster po' boys, and shrimp etoufee and jambalaya. Oh me gods: we ate like stones teenagers.

They seems to be doing real good business and that's good news, because Athens is lucky to have them here. Great food and good people are always a beautiful combo.

Only drawback: the zoning there prevents them from having any seats, so it's all togo. But that's ok, just sit in your car and enjoy. Or get things that travel well and take it home. Regardless, this is easily on of the five best food finds in Athens right now.

Just returned from the Athens area, Watkinsville to be exact!

New in town is Acapulcos Mexican Grill at 1260 Mars Hill Rd. Located in a small strip mall next door to Dragon Flys (A Quilting Store), on the menu tonight was Chorizo Tacos. 3 on the plate with rice and beans. A good quantity of tasty Chorizo, not overcooked and just the right flavor mix, no need for the tomatillo sauce these.

Also tried out the Chili Verde. Tender almost melt in your mouth with a nice green chili sauce spiced just on the med hot side of spice/heat (for mainstream), very flavorful IMO.

Light colored refried beans were creamy and just right, not to heavy. Rice had good flavor with fresh vegs.

Sweet Tea with a lemon slice just right in the sweet and tea balance.

Medium priced, good quantity, staff attentive. Will go again. (Don't look for the Menudo yet, must go to Senior Sol for that on Sat/Sun)
