Title: F1
Post by: Mike GadgetGeek Stock on October 26, 2009, 04:57:45 PM

One more race to go.   Both titles have been established, Button in his Brawn is the Champion this year.

Abu Dhabi, a virgin race, a twilight race and bragging rights at stake.  The event is sold out, at the new Marina course in Abu Dhabi. and the TiVo is set up to get it all...

I hope Hamilton wins.

I had no idea Ross Braun started his own team, and no idea Schumacher came back to F1 as a driver. I haven't followed F1 for a number of years. The races just became uninteresting to me...and i had/have better things to do with the 3 hours it took to watch one.

It was a very exciting year last year with a new team winning the big prize.  Ross proved his worth, and now will compete with a bigger budget than he used last year to win..     The rules changes for this year are amazing to me, no fuel refills during the race for one big rule change..

I usually TiVo the race so that I can speed through some parts of it, but I would have missed Felipe Massa's unjury unless I watched the whole race.  He ran into a bouncing spring that fell from another car, his helmet saved his life, it knocked him out, he crashed, and spent the rest of the season in rehab....

The American team will NOT have a team or cars on the grid to start the season.  I was hoping they would.

I will still be a glued-to-the-TiVo'd playbacks and still be rooting for either Michael or Lewis H.

So what's with the no refueling thing?  It seems like a major burden on the teams.

All of the teams had to completely change their car design to fit in the extra fuel capacity.  If this is a money saving move on the part of FIA I just don't get it?  I also think it is a change that is dangerous.

The return of Michael Schumacher; four world champions on the grid; at least three leading teams in which team mates will be fighting head-to-head for the title honours; and the prospect of drivers having to display genuine finesse in nursing their tyres now that refuelling has been banned.

Is it any wonder that 2010 is being billed as a fantastic season for the FIA Formula One World Championship? The wait is almost over...

5 days to go...

Monaco is a very exciting race, a real drivers circuit. and the race this morning lived up to the promise with good weather, and interesting twists along the way..  I won't be a spoiler (yet), and tell the outcome in case folks have TiVo'd the race, it was pretty exciting for those that love it though..

Good race in Montreal on Sunday..   My boy won, in a convincing sort-of way..

Absolutely one of the best seasons for GOOD racing with Championship drivers battling it out to the end.

I will predict that Vettle will get in his own way again this season and be seriously penalized for it..   He is competitive but perhaps a bit too much adrenalin.    I love it that he is a wonderful driver and can compete, but he doesn't have the gentlemanly courtesy that the top F1 drivers strive to achieve.

F1 in Germany tomorrow on Fox network..

Somehow the Ferrari's got some go-power and were 2-3 behind Vettel in the Red Bull..

If it rains tomorrow (on the track), it will change everything, and Hamilton has a chance to pull it off..

I am voting for Webber if it is dry and Massa if it is wet.

Only two-thousandths of a second separated 1st and 2nd place today..

So what did you F1 followers think of this last weekend race?   I just love the venue, and it is a night race.  The only one in F1..

I watched all parts and think that MS should bow out of racing, and save our respect for him.  And I think that, though I don't like his attitude, Vettel is the best driver we have seen, even from before Michael S.   I only hope that his INCREDIBLY energetic style of racing does not work against him?

I applaud Alonso for the win, I respect Vettel for keeping up with him, but what I liked about this last race was that, Robert Kubica came up from near last and got into the points.

So rather than race the first race in the lovely city of Bahrain, F1 opted to start the season in Australia.  There is some sort of conflict in Bahrain or something.

Vettel is the driver that is running away from the pack.  He is like Shumi was in his heyday and like Hamilton was a couple years ago.  I still think that Hamilton has the "best hands" in F1 and if they switched cars could beat Vettels time but that's not going to happen.

So its off to Kuala Lumpur MALAYSIA in 2 weeks to do it again.

I wish I could pre-buy tickets for the Texas track...  I would...

I hope that "we" can get Americans behind the F1 events now that in 2012 we will have our own race track in Texas.  I am on an early list of folks wanting tickets to the premier event.  I have an F1 bucket list that involves Michael, and Vettel, and even Alonso and Masa.  What a splendid race today, and because it went so long, I missed the

I watched the race...   It was a good race, Michael was in first place for a while, I secretly hoped he could get on the podium, but the right folks were up there in the end and they were humble and gracious.  There is 20% of the year left to run, but our vunderkind Vettel has clinched the drivers championship.  He is one amazing driver, to only be 22 years old and to have accomplished so much.  Sure I didn't like his attitude when he was 19 and 20 years old but he has grown into a respectable, respectful driver that certainly always wants to win, but sees the big picture.  It is a good series this year.

I hate it that the season is over.  I also have conceded that Sebastian Vettel is a high quality driver formed in the skin of some of the previous built-for-the-sport drivers that have come out of the European go-cart driving circuit.

While the Brazilian GP was not a very exciting race, it did show how a guy (like in the past) with only a few gears working in his transmission can keep the pace and arrive on the podium.

I hated to see Hamilton drop out, and hated to see Barrichello do so poorly in his (possibly) last race.

Dern it is a long 4 months without the races.................

Though my wife and her aunt will be staying here at Casa Stock Norte while I am gone I leave for Austin in the early AM.  I am so pumped about the F1 race and have been treated to a musical evening by my son at The Rattle Inn near the hotel for an open bar, big music evening tomorrow night.  There are so many music venues going on this weekend in Austin that I don't have time right now to fill you all in.  But understand we are there for the race.   There are three music venues at the track itself and if I understand correctly we are invited to 3 after-race events by F1 tours (we booked our hotel and paddock pass through them).  I am way too anxious, I am way too pumped and may have to put those squid bodies away and eat a sandwich for dinner just to calm down.  I know most of you folks are NOT F1 geeks but I am and I have looked forward to this for a year or more.  Let me go open a bottle of Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van De Keizer and settle down.

My son will be flying into Austin late on Thursday and will be my companion for the weekend, I am blessed to have a boy-child that will put up with my antics and spend a weekend with me.  I also feel blessed to have CodePoet/Deanne as my wife and have her as my support team on these adventures.  Heck, I couldn't pack a suitcase or organize an adventure without her.  LOL

(this is a culinary term)  Holy Sheet---

I just cannot wait to put my fingers to work and describe our 4 days in Austin.  Thanks for putting up with me NOT being around for those days, I'll try and fix anything that went wrong (possibly FlyinBrian has not already fixed it)

What an inaugural race.  I would choose different seats if the seating arrangement is the same for the next race but it was just this-close to fantastic.

The drivers love the track, it is both technical and the added feature of the BIG elevation change and those corners that are triple apexes make this (as it sits now) as one of the most formidable tracks built in the last 10 years.  I do understand the BE. has signed a 10 year contract with COTA (Circuit of the Americas) that built the track in Austin.

Just wait till I give you a link to the pictures (that I really have not seen yet).

This track (for good or for bad) is going to change Austin from the home of Willy Nelson/live music capital of the country, to a venue for at least 6 possibly 9 HUGE weekends this coming year with 100's of thousands of visitors with $$$$ coming to town.  Damn I wish that when they were considering the Road Atlanta property for a possible F1 site that someone with their head on straight would have been in the bidding process.  This track will change the city of Austin in some of the ways that the 96 Olympic changed Atlanta.  Not all Austonian are "down with all that"..   Some still want to keep Austin "Weird"....  Actually they have t-shirts that say, "Keep Austin Weird".

One funny thing in the F1 thread   (I hope there are more)...

They are PERHAPS naming the first corner at the Austin track (you have to see the layout to appreciate this)  The "Austin" corner because it is "High and to the Left"...   ;)

The F1 crowd is in China this weekend, the Red Bull drama keeps going on, now they only put enough fuel in Webbers's car for him to qualify but not get back to the pits..  I'm thinking that is TEAM ORDERS, all the way.

Raikkonen to partner Alonso at Ferrari in 2014 11 Sep 2013

Kimi Raikkonen (FIN) Lotus F1. Formula One World Championship, Rd12, Italian Grand Prix, Practice, Monza, Italy, Friday, 6 September 2013 Kimi Raikkonen (FIN) Ferrari celebrates on the podium Formula One World Championship, Rd17, Brazilian Grand Prix, Race Day, Interlagos, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Sunday, 21 October 2007 (L to R): Kimi Raikkonen (FIN) Lotus F1, race winner Fernando Alonso (ESP) Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali (ITA) Ferrari General Director and Felipe Massa (BRA) Ferrari celebrate on the podium. Formula One World Championship, Rd5, Spanish Grand Prix, Race Day, Barcelona, Spain, Sunday, 12 May 2013 Fernando Alonso (ESP) Ferrari and race winner Kimi Raikkonen (FIN) Lotus F1 on the podium. Formula One World Championship, Rd1, Australian Grand Prix, Race, Albert Park, Melbourne, Australia, Sunday, 17 March 2013

Kimi Raikkonen will leave Lotus and make a sensational return to Ferrari in 2014, it was confirmed on Wednesday. It follows Tuesday’s news that Felipe Massa will exit the Italian team at the end of the year.

Raikkonen - who previously drove for Ferrari between 2007 and 2009, winning nine races and the 2007 drivers’ title - has signed a two-year deal with the Scuderia, ending intense speculation about his future.

The Finn will join Fernando Alonso, meaning that Ferrari will enter next season with an all-world champion line-up.

“I am really happy to be returning to Maranello where I previously spent three fantastic and very successful years,” Raikkonen told the Ferrari website. "I have so many memories of my time at Ferrari, memories which have stayed with me these past years, first and foremost, winning the world championship title in 2007, which was really unforgettable.

"I can’t wait to be driving a Prancing Horse car again and to reacquaint myself with so many people with whom I had such close links, as well as working with Fernando, whom I consider a great driver, in order to bring the team the success it deserves.”

Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali, commented: “I am pleased to welcome Kimi back to the Scuderia, the team with which he won his world championship title. I sense he is very happy to be returning to Maranello and very determined to tackle the work that awaits him in the best way possible.”

Alonso echoed his team principal’s sentiments, saying: “I’d like to welcome my new travelling companion: together, starting next year, we will have to tackle a very demanding technical and racing challenge.”

Raikkonen left Formula One racing after his first stint with Ferrari came to an end, but returned to the sport in 2012 with Lotus, finishing an impressive third in the championship. He’s scored one victory so far this season and currently sits fourth in the drivers’ standings, 88 points behind championship leader Sebastian Vettel.

An amazing race at the India F1 track today early..

No doubt that Seb Vettel is a once (or twice) in a lifetime driver.  His 4th Championship was secured today.  At first I did not like the sort-of smart ass German, but he has proven time and again that he is a true world champion driver.

GG>-  One of the best races I have seen in quite some time, the one earlier today in Bahrain.

Great wheel to wheel racing with almost no paint trading and a grand finish for Lewis Hamilton.  I have suspicious that Nico was obeying team orders and did not take the race to Lewis in the last few laps, it seemed obvious that Nico could have beat him.

And now on to a race in China..    It is strange seeing the Red Bull team so far back and the Force India cars competing and beating the Ferrari's.   But hey, that is racing.

First post on this board, so pardon my not reading from thread #1.

I turn 60 this year, around race time, and for a birthday present, was looking to go to Austin in Oct/Nov for the race....well, seemingly, I need to take out a second mortgage to do so.  Tickets start at ~$250 for GenAdmin, ~$600 for Turn 1, and up to ~$1800 for Grandstands, 3 day  pass.  Parking pass another `$200-250.  Hotels are either no vacancy, except the Howard Johnson's @ $400+/night with a 3 night guarantee.

I know it's a 1% sport but REALLY???  It would be a once in a lifetime event, but I'm not sure I'll live long enough to afford it.

It really is a spectacle.  That track (as are many others) is great for viewing even from the lawn seats.  While the paddock pass is pretty nifty, and the seats or boxes at a few of the GOOD corners are wonderful and the tour of the pits and all of that hoopla makes the event even better, the vibe and the track grounds at COTA are welcoming and user friendly.  Carry a good seat cushion with a back, wear some good walking shoes and go see a wonderful race, maybe we will see you there?

The BIGGEST news in F1 history at least in the last 5 years (excluding Michael's accident)...

Vettle leaves Red Bull
Alonso goes somewhere

http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2014/10/16440.html

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++==++++++++++++++++++++++

Vettel to leave Red Bull after 2014; Kvyat to be promoted 04 Oct 2014

Sebastian Vettel will leave Red Bull at the end of the 2014 season, the team has confirmed.

The German joined the Milton Keynes-based squad ahead of the 2009 season and the combination has been the dominant force in Formula One ever since, with Vettel claiming four consecutive world championship crowns, 38 Grand Prix victories, and 44 poles over the past six seasons.

Red Bull also confirmed that Daniil Kvyat, who has impressed for sister team Toro Rosso during his rookie season this year, will be promoted to the main team alongside Daniel Ricciardo in 2015.

"Sebastian Vettel has advised us that he will be leaving Infiniti Red Bull Racing at the end of the 2014 season," a statement from Red Bull read.

“We want to warmly thank Sebastian for the incredible role he has played at Infiniti Red Bull Racing for the last six years.

"As we wish Sebastian well in the next stage of his career, we also look to the future with excitement, as the vacancy makes way for the next generation of Red Bull racers.

"The Red Bull Junior Programme has developed some proven talents in recent times, including Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo, who has excelled in the RB10 and become a three-time Formula One race winner in his first season with the team.

"We're pleased to announce that Daniel will be joined in the team for 2015 by another rising star from the Junior Programme, Daniil Kvyat."

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner added: "I think [Vettel] reached a stage in his career where he fancied a new challenge, so that's his prerogative and like in any relationship, if someone's heart is not in it, then it's time to move on.

"It's the end of a cycle of course, but it's also the start of a new cycle: Daniel [Ricciardo] is doing a great job this year and has got three wins already – he shows the new strength we have coming through and we're excited about the prospect of Kvyat lining up with him. They're the next generation."

Vettel is expected to announce his future plans shortly.

His departure has massive significance in terms of the driver market. The 27-year-old has been widely tipped to move to Ferrari, with Fernando Alonso strongly linked with a switch back to McLaren.

Kvyat's promotion, meanwhile, means a seat will open up at Toro Rosso next year. Rookie Max Verstappen is already confirmed with the team for 2015.

Well maybe..  I have seen the vid a dozen times and certainly there is some issues.  But it is way past the point of charging the corner workers with MAJOR crimes.     F1 and FIA have learned from this tragedy let's move on.   good golly, it has been a long time since we have had issues.
