where between here and Dalton for lunch?
« on: July 25, 2011, 08:13:09 AM »
Was going to meet my parents at the Lodge @ Red Top Mtn for lunch but found out it had closed last year.  Options close to I-75 are pretty limited.  BTW, Gordon county is dry on Sundays.

How about Doug's Place in Emerson.  It's an old school "meat & three" but we usually go for country breakfast.
Is that close enough to Dalton for you?

I've heard good buzz about this place. Unfortunately, no Web page.

While Barnsley Gardens isn't just off I-75, it's close by. Their web site ins't working at the moment, but I think there is more than one dining option.

If that doesn't work, there's always Dee's Road Kill Cafe in White, GA.

Did you want drinks? Are you meeting them Sunday? That would be a problem for anywhere between Cobb County and Chattanooga. You can get drinks on Sunday in Bartow, but only chains and Mexican restaurants will be open on Sunday. That leaves Applebees, Chili's, and Longhorn's.

If you want drinks during the week I would go to downtown Cartersville (get off the interstate at the Cartersville Main Street exit, turn west*, go three traffic lights, all of the restaurants I mention will be before you cross the RR tracks). The City Cellar is on a little side street to the left just before the railroad tracks, and Appalachian Grill is to the right all the way to the other side of the square. The food is fair at both places with similar menus and they are comfortable sit down restaurants.

Swheat Market is also on the square. They started as an organic grocer who also served soups and sandwiches and evolved into a full service restaurant. On their good days they have the best food in Cartersville, but they are terrible inconsistent.

If you don't want drinks, or want something a little cheaper, I would go with Doug's.

Actually I did desire a beer with my lunch and the last occasion it was a Sunday.  Hence we ended up at a Longhorn's.  As luck would have it we were seated at a table next to the bar area to be tempted the entire time.

I had looked at Barnsley Gardens but thought the prices to be a bit inflated.

One more place, but it's a good ways off the interstate would be Johnny Mitchell's Smokehouse. I went to high school with Johnny but we aren't close enough friends that I would be considered a shill. It's in Bartow County but not Cartersville so I don't know if you can get beer on Sunday or not.

If you decide to try Barnsley let us know how it is. I don't know of any locals who have eaten there. Not even golfers.
